R&R...

After the race and Grayson's basketball game yesterday, we headed out to Lantana to a friend's house for some much needed rest and relaxation in the pool. I thought a nice dip in the water would sooth my aching muscles. Well, I still need a massage but the pool was refreshing!

Look Mom, no hands!

Too Hot to Handle 5k

Well I did it! I ran the Too Hot to Handle 5k yesterday at White Rock Lake with Katie and Katherine! I'm very proud to have accomplished this. I have a lot of friends who are runners so to them, this was no big deal. But it was my own little marathon. I questioned my decision when the alarm went off at 5:30 a.m. for me to get up and meet the girls! And despite the title of the race, the weather really wasn't too hot. The "cool" front we had been waiting on finally came in and the scenery was awesome! Katie took the pictures below of me running. She finished in 39 minutes, Kat finished in 34 minutes and I brought up the rear in 46 minutes/27 seconds. However there were still plenty of people behind me! I'm just glad I was still vertical when I crossed the finish line.

Yep, a guy in a chicken suit!
I'm smiling because I see the finish line!
Almost there...
DONE!

Camp Invention

Grayson CANNOT wait for Camp Invention next year! He had so much fun. I'm glad we decided to let him go. It was a little expensive so we pondered not doing it. Well, it was worth the money! He learned so much! Everyday he commented that he was having more fun than the previous day! That is priceless!

Joe Bot - he only used a couple of pieces from the DVD player that he took to take apart! The rest as you can see was just plastic parts.

This is his space city with a windmill, observatory, and satellite.
This boat really floats!

Fun Times

There are only about 5 more weeks before school starts back! I can't believe how fast the summer is going. I guess time really does fly when you are having fun! This week Grayson has been at Camp Invention. He is having a blast. He took an old DVD player to take apart and rebuild something. Who knows what he will come home with tomorrow! We have also stayed busy swimming, playing basketball and visiting with friends. If I had a dollar for every time these kids were in a pool or sprinkler, I'd be able to build my own pool!!! Anyway, these are a couple of pictures I have taken along the way this week. Next week is VBS at our church, then it's on to the beach!

Jessie wouldn't feed the horses with me. I'm surprised she even got this close! This was after our swim at the Brandenburg's house!

Time for Fourth of July fun!

Time for some R&R at the Kilgo's house. After the parade we headed home to change clothes and celebrate with friends. Joe grilled ribs and brisket and made some out of this world potato salad, corn and peach kobler! It will take me a week to work off the calories I consumed with this one meal! It was worth every bite! The kids had a great time in the pool and so did the adults. I usually don't swim that much, but on a hot day like this, you have to!! We stayed in the water until dark and then went home and crashed on the couch!

First time in the water!

The Parade!

Finally! The day of the parade! We arrived at St. Ann's at 7:30 in the morning to get the final details done and line up for the parade. Yesterday's temperature was 102 degrees. There's nothing like sitting on a float in the blaring sun with about 2 dozen kids! Luckily, we were at the beginning of the parade and it was fast moving this year compared to others.

My partner in crime!
Blast off!

Cutest kids in the parade!

You can't tell, but Kendall was literally holding me up! I was so tired!

Fireworks at Andy Brown Park

For the second year in a row we joined the Higgs family at Andy Brown Park to watch the fireworks show. Coppell does an awesome job putting together this event. Shari and I go early in the day to stake claim at a table right near the pond! We have perfect seats for picnic, feeding the ducks and watching the fireworks show. This year the boys not only fed the ducks, but chased a water moccasin! Scary!!!!

The Float...

It took a lot of work and planning, but we did it! Our float didn't win a prize in the parade but we got lots of compliments from everybody! Thanks to all who came out to help us!!

Our resident HS cheerleader and her mom helping with the signs! Thanks Brittney and Brenda!

At this point we were almost delirious - this was a 10 hour work day!

Katie and I are already planning for next year!!!

This Week...

No pics to post as of yet, but I have spent the better part of this week and several days last week building the float for the parade on Saturday that will represent FBC Coppell and VBS in the 4th of July Parade. Our theme is Cosmic City - Explore the awesome wonder of God. As much as I gripe and complain, it has really been fun. My nature is to complain about things. But I have really enjoyed hanging out with Katie and getting to know her better. Everyday we ask each other "what have we gotten in to?". It is a lot of hard work, but fun. I just tend to stress out when I think it's not going to look good or people aren't going to know what it is! My biggest weakness is having to depend on other people to help. I just wish I knew all of the construction details so I wouldn't have to bother other people with it. I like to just get things done! Hopefully we will have the finished product tonight! Otherwise, I am sure I will develop stomach ulcers!
