Spring Break was the week of March 17. We didn't take a big, week long trip, but we did go tent camping. Yes, tent camping. Let's just say we learned a lot that will help us on our next camping adventure. Like take an air mattress, bring extra blankets, don't forget pillows, pack more than one pair of clothes for the kids because someone will end up wet...I hope I can talk Kendall in to doing this again!
We only camped one night - Thursday. We went with our friends, the Benge family - Jason, Stacy, Mason and Jackson. As soon as we pulled up there was another family from Coppell that we knew at the site right next to us. Small world. Well, not really. We were just in Grapevine at the Vineyards Campground. They had 3 more kids to add to the mix, one was a second grade little girl (Lauren) that Grayson fell in love with instantly. He has added her to his list of girlfriends. They all had a blast!
We borrowed a tent from Eric and Rosemond who are avid campers. Eric was leary to lend us the tent since he knew we were camping amateurs. Luckily, Jason camps all the time and helped me with setting up the tent. As you can see from the pictures, it took more than one try! It was VERY windy and we had to use fishing line to secure the tent to the tree behind us. Eric swears we just didn't put the tent up the right way.
Later that evening, we roasted weiners and marshmellows. I have never seen kids who didn't like roasted marshmellows! But of course, mine didn't. They preferred to just throw things in the fire and watch them burn.
It was really cold that night. We sat by the fire as long as could and finally snuggled in to our sleeping bags. Actually, I wouldn't call it snuggling because we were on a hard ground Before you know it, Grayson is waking up because he peed in his sleeping bag!! So, he shared with me after that. (And I didn't sleep!). Around 3 am Jessie woke up needing to poop! I will spare you the rest of the details, but she ended up in Kendall's sleeping bag. I was so glad to see the sun come up! That meant I could make a fast run to Whataburger for coffee and a warm breakfast!
We spent the morning wrapped in blankets around the fire. Kendall cuddled with Jason to keep warm!! Finally, when we were able to shed the blankets and jackets we had an Easter egg hunt for the kids around the lake. The adults humored the kids by trying the hool-a-hoop. We played and ate candy until lunch time and it was time to pack up and go. We ended our camping adventure with burgers from Fudruckers.
Fun times!! We hope to have another fun trip with the Benge's soon!

I wish I could have been a little bird in one of those trees to see that one!
