The last leg of our spring break trip was to San Antonio with the Kilgo and Olivas families. Mexican food, margaritas and lots of soppapillas! We stayed in the super fab Hilton Del Palacio right on the river walk! We visited the Alamo, Hard Rock Cafe, and Ripley's Wax Museum. I can't wait for another spring break trip!

USS Lexington

The Cub Scout group spent a night on the USS Lexington in Corpus Christi, TX for our first night of Spring Break. We learned a lot about the history of this massive naval carrier. We slept in the berthing areas where the sailors slept (boys on one side, girls on the other!), and kept a military schedule.

This year we met the Olivas family and the Ward family at Cantina Laredo. Then we headed over to the Wards to make cookies for Santa! Jessie and Avery did a great job on the cookies. We suprised the kids with a trip to the Great Wolf Lodge on the weekend they got out of school for Christmas break. They have begged to go there for months. It was so awesome to see their faces when we pulled in to the parking lot and told them that not only were we staying there, 4 other friends and their families were meeting us there too! I've said it over and over, we have the BEST choir teacher! Mr. Hanson really knows how to get these kids interested in music! On October 12, 2010 was our annual fundraiser/spaghetti dinner. We sold out and the kids put on an awesome performance! Way to go Ranger Chorale! The theme of the evening was "New York City". We decorated the cafeteria like a Broadway stage! Jessie was in on the fun too with her friend, Natalie!

On October 10, 1910 my nanny (my dad's mom), Jessie Pauline was born! As God would have it, I was born 63 years later on October 10, 1973. My sweet girl, Jessie, was named after her. For years I've had a quilt top that she started. My sweet friend, Kari Smith, completed her work by adding backing and a beautiful purple and brown border to it! I am so excited to have something in our family that we can pass down for years to come!

That really hit home when I saw her sitting in her chair in her new classroom with Mrs. Rutledge! Grayson loves his homeroom teacher, Mrs. Larson. In part because she is so pretty, but she's cool too. She has a large rat as a classroom pet!

This was by far one of the BEST family vacations we have ever done! SOTO, in North Arkansas is truly one of God's most beautiful creations. We had an awesome time with our church family hiking, canoeing, rafting, riding horses, playing laser tag, fishing, rock climbing, cliff hanging, and doing the high ropes course...just to name a few! We can't wait to go back next year!

Another successful VBS week! This year our theme was Route 254, reflecting on Psalm 25:4. I was an elementary school director along side the amazing Cindi Coss! I think she directed me more than I directed anything else! But what a learning experience for me! I have never been fully plugged in to VBS like I was this year and I can't wait for next year! Also this year, FBC held Back Yard Bible Clubs at several different homes. We were fortunate enough to host for our neighborhood and surrounding area. We averaged 19 kids each night!! It made for a long week, but it was so worth it.We celebrated with family night events in the church parking lot on Friday night and Grayson dunked Pastor Clayton in the dunk tank...all for God!!!!

Our niece, Caty, came to visit last week for 3 days from Atlanta. What a busy 3 days we had! After our wonderful trip to the beach, we dropped Grayson off with Nani and Pappaw to spend the week at their house in Prattville, AL. He LOVED his week with Christopher (cousin, same age). The 2009-2010 Wilson Ranger Choir has come to an end. They held their final performance at Valley Ranch Baptist Church on Thursday. Of course they didn't disappoint! Grayson rocked out to "Don't Stop Believing" by Journey. Everyone was laughing and clapping at his dance moves! Especially since he was the only one in the choir to do so! Afterward, we celebrated at Rosa's Tortilla Factory with some of our choir buddies!

130 kids, Mr. Hansen, Sandy Lake Amusement Park and me = Wilson Ranger Chorale Choir Competition! What a day. The kids performed early in the day - SCORED A 1 (highest rank you can get) and then played in the amusement park until lunch! Ferris Wheel, Bumper Cars, mini Roller Coaster....and pizza! Only one kid in my group almost puked!! Thankfully, he didn't! It was a long, hot day but worth it! We are so proud of this group of kids and their super, duper choir teacher, Mr. Hansen!!

Third Grade Economics Fair

Whew! We made it through the Economics Fair! Here's the idea...they come up with a company idea, name, and product to sell. All of the third grade does this. They marketed their product to the entire school. They even made prototypes and got feedback as to whether or not the product would sell for the price they were asking! Grayson came up with the idea for the boys to pitch in some legos and they built "mini lego sets" to sell. They assembled the item, took a picture of it, put it in a Ziploc bag and stapled the pic to the outside of the bag so the customer would know what they were getting. Prices ranged from $.50- $2.50, depending on how big the set was. They had to keep a Profit and Loss sheet that included their outgoing expenses. Grayson, Hudson and Nikheil came in second place making over $86.00!! Their company sold "Legos and cupcakes"!

Grayson was Principal on May 10. Needless to say he loved it! As soon as he arrived at school he was shown his own desk and laptop in the office. Below is a copy of the email I received from his principal later that day...

Hi Angie,

Grayson had a great day! He was so much help in the office and I think he really enjoyed himself. Early this morning, he helped supervise announcements and then went with me to make sure 5th grade got off to Pine Cove okay. Then he went to specials. He spent the first part of the morning "in charge" of the "books." He worked with information from the bank on our various accounts. He did some research on his laptop and then he went to lunch with his friends. (I believe he arranged with Mrs. Sanbria to eat outside.) When he got back from recess, he helped in the front office while I attended a meeting. Then he told me, "he was going to be back upstairs for the rest of the day" because the crayfish have come in. He added that they are aggressive. I hope he enjoyed his time as principal. The teachers popped their heads in all morning and said hello to him and called him Mr. Principal! I loved having him. My Mothers Day Quilt

It may not look like much to most, but this is one of the few things that I have from my grandmother (Nanny). Kendall agreed to let me have this quilt/blanket finished for Mothers Day. It started off as a quilt topper. A friend of mine finished the edging and completed some "touch up" work on it. Maybe it's not the most beautiful thing that most have seen, but it is absolutely one of my most treasured possessions! As it hangs on the wall in our home office, I will think of my nanny every time I look at it! I love it so much!

KENTUCKY DERBY

My horse (Ice Box) didn't win, but what fun we had cheering for these incredible animals! Crimson Caravan comes to Cowboy Stadium!

The first stop of the Crimson Caravan tour this year was Cowboy Stadium! North Texas has more Alabama Alumni than any other area outside of Alabama. ROLL TIDE! There were about 500 fans there. We ate dinner, mingled with other fans, and got to hear Coach Saban and Eli Gold (the voice of Bama football) speak!! It was so much fun! The most exciting moment for me was getting a hug and picture made with Coach Saban! Talk about being in the right place at the right time! He had just finished eating and exited the stage where I was standing. I didn't think he would say yes to having his picture made with me!!! Can't wait until football season this year!!!

Our sweet baby Isla Olivas turned one on April 15! We celebrated with mexican food and cake at the Olivas house. She LOVED her Winnie the Pooh Cake! Happy Birthday to one of the sweetest girls we know!

2010 FBCC SPRING RETREAT FOR WOMEN

I don't brag on myself very often, but now seems like a good time to do it! This weekend was our annual Women's Spring Retreat at FBC and I was the lead organizer this year! Our theme was "Step by Step, Growing in Our Walk with God". What an awesome weekend! We stayed at the Omni Hotel. Our speaker was one of the best I have ever heard! Her name is Debbie Stuart. She is the Women's Ministry Leader at Prestonwood Church. Talk about life changing moments...we had them this weekend! I was fortunate enough to work with some super inspiring and Godly women...Courtney, Rosemond, Cindi and Lynee who helped me pull off an awesome retreat! Our mission activity was decorating "girly" flip flops to be taken to the Amazon and given to women there, we had wonderful food, awesome fellowship time and a super fabulous speaker!! My only regret is that it didn't last longer!

Jessie loves puzzles as much as I do. So, we spent no less than 4 hours putting these together (they were all 100 piece puzzles). Most are of animals, the last one a picture of my kids with their cousins, Natalie and CJ taken last year. So, I guess they were ALL pictures of animals!!!

EASTER SUNDAY! What a wonderful day!

What an incredible day! The kids woke up early and ready to find the eggs that were hidden (after midnight) in the back yard!!! We convinced them to shower and get dressed for church first. They ooooohed and aaawwwwed at the Easter basket goodies, then cleaned them out and headed outside! We went church, as usual, and then headed over to a friend's house for another egg hunt and lunch! I was exhausted after the events of the day. We came home and watched 3 "Jim Carey" movies on TV...all curled up on the couch in blankets...love it!

Money!!! I don't remember the Easter Bunny leaving money in the eggs when I was a kid!!

Seriously? My kids are cute!!

Kendall turned 37 on Thursday. Wowza! I remember when I thought that was old!!! Thursday night we celebrated in typicall "Huff" style...wings at Buffalo's! However, our friends, Joe and Leslie had a different celebration in mind. They know Kendall's love for all things beef, lobster and chocolate, so they threw a dinner party in his honor! On the menu, lobster bisque, lobster stuffed tenderloin and chocolate molten cake!!! Really?? It was like dining in a 5 star restaurant!! We are so blessed to have such wonderful friends! HAPPY BIRTHDAY KENDALL!

Carson's Easter Egg Hunt

Jessie's sweet friend, Carson, invited her to an egg hunt at his grandmother's house today. Some eggs were pretty obvious, some were just pretty funny!!! They had a great time finding their treats. Jessie was incredibly excited to find quarters in some of her eggs when she opened them up!!

The Last Game of the Season...

The soccer season flew by! And just as predicted, Jessie was very assertive and a great player. Kendall was much better at attending her games than I was, but she did not disappoint when I was there! She scored 4 goals in her last game!!! Not too shabby for a first timer! I promised her a kart-wheel for every goal she scored this game, so you can imagine my humility when I was one the field after the game with all the parents watching me!! She loved getting her medal and was so proud at the celebration afterward! Kendall is already looking in to sign up for the next season!!

Jessie's school, Bright Beginnings, held their Easter Egg hunt on Thursday. They played at a local park, had a picnic lunch and then went on the egg finding adventure! It was a beautiful day. The kids had a blast and I got to hang out with some pretty cool moms!

Bill and Becky Ferguson celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this weekend!!! WOW! They are my friend, Cathy's, parents. We always seem to end up at their family events!!! The party was fun, kids played in the pool despite the chilly March weather, adults watched wonderful video clips and mingled. It was so much fun to be included in the Ferguson family event.

What a fun Spring Break we had! A friend of mine has a house on Lake Granbury and was kind enough to let us use it for the second half of the week. It is a great little place right on the cove, can sleep up to 16 people and is fully equipped with paddle boats, canoes, games, ducks, BBQ grill and more! The Higgs family joined us on Wednesday night for all the fun. As soon as the kids were outside, they suited up in life jackets and hit the water! Grayson LOVED the paddle boats. The only time he and Sam got out of it was to grab a snack! Dave took the girls out in the canoe while Shari and I drove all over Granbury looking for a battery for my camera!!! Ugggghhh, no matter how hard I try, I always leave something important at home. After about 8 stops, we finally found one. I'm so glad. It would not have been the same without getting to capture all these adorable memories!

Is it a beach, or a lake?

Granbury City Beach is a man-made beach near the historical side of town. It was a hit with all the kids, even though the water was FREEZING! It amazes me that the kids did not care about the temperature of the water. They just wanted to have fun! I put my foot in once and quickly ran back to my towel! They played in the water and sand and loved every minute of it. They weren't too happy when we had to leave!

Fossil Rim and Dinosaur Valley

On Friday morning we woke up early for our drive to Glen Rose to visit Fossil Rim. What an experience!! Kendall and I had as much fun as the kids on the 9.5 mile wilderness ride! We bought a bag of food and got to feed so many of the animals. The kids took turns standing up through the sun roof of the car to get a really good look at these creatures! The most memorable part was the Zebras. Not only did they eat out of our hands, one got a little over zealous and started chewing on my blinker inside the car! It was as funny as it was concerning! The only disappointing part was that the giraffes were full by the time we got to them. They got close to us, but we didn't get to feed them. Afterward, Jessie took a little nap while we drove over to Dinosaur Valley. Kendall, Dave and the kids waded through the water, over the rocks in search of dino tracks. They spotted two, but not before falling in to the freezing cold water! It was a great day!

Back at the Lake...

After Fossil Rim and Dino Valley, we headed back to the lake house to enjoy our last afternoon. The kids got right back in the paddle boat while Kendall and Dave played washers (sort of like horse shoes). Shari and I sat on the porch taking it all in, relaxing! Later that night we went to a local pub for dinner, music and big screen TV (after all, it is NCAA basketball tourney time!) I'm glad we had good weather on our break. It rained on Friday night and we woke up to 35 degree weather on Saturday!! And of course, in typical Texas style, it snowed Saturday night!
